The attractive girl in the foreground is portrayed preparing a meal of Dourra Indian corn bread,or gruel, by the millennial old tradition of grinding kernals between two stones. Abyssinian slaves were much prized in Egypt and fetched a high price in the Cairo slave markets of the time.
