Since 1763 the name 'Russborough' has been synonymous with collecting and dealing in fine art. In the closing decades of the last century the historic town of Port Hope has become home to Lord Russborough's Annex, which specialises in an individual mix of antique maps, paintings and prints.

While Lord Russborough's Annex features a great many works of museum calibre, we also offer a wonderful selection of prints priced at under $100.

We are pleased to include this fine image from Rothe's Horse series on our web site as a fine example of the art of contempoary mezzotint, by one of America's leading exponents of the medium. Its composition, sense of movement, and technical execution is exquisite. Note the visage of the Native people's 'Great Spirit' Gitche Manitou in the clouds.

Gatja H. Rothe 1935 -
Born in Beuthen, Germany of strict Lutheran parents. Her earliest training was in drawing and goldsmithing under the tutelage of her jeweller father. In 1956 she not only continued working in gold, but studied techniques in drawing, painting and etching at the Design Academy of Pforzheim, She married her her teacher, Curt Rothe, in 1958. Ten years later, she won the Villa Romana Preis, one of Europe's most prestigious and coveted fellowships, which allowed her to work in Florence, Italy for a year, most of which she spend studying anatomical drawing.
